Data deduplication ( often coupled with compression)  is a technique based on the creation of a dictionary. Redundancies in packets and frames can be eliminated thanks to compression. This technique is not based on disk dictionary but on data included within the frame. Principle is basically as such : size of data is reduced in order to limit the use of bandwidth.

On top of permitting more information to transit on the WAN, compression is also profitable to application performance because with compression, WAN is subjected to reduced load. Moreover compression technique generates cost reduction and implies as well time saving for users.

Yet, these applications exchange much information between customer and server hence these applications rely on transfer times.

First objective of acceleration is to reduce the number of in-and-out network journeys required for the functioning of an application thanks to the understanding of the concerned application protocol such as CIFS. Another objective is to work on mecanisms that are specific to TCP protocol in order to limit as much as possible latency effects.


Data caching means to host data that are frequently used on a local server, thus in order to assure a quick access to them. This technique is ideal for files but also works for URL.

Here as well, it is possible to anticipate the needs of user by caching some URL not yet consulted by user, for user to save time and improve his or her experience.
